Art exhibition at Motel

The Soho-Telo-Muestra Arte Transitorio is a more than unusual event. And people are certainly talking about it! In the old J & B motel of Palermo, one block away from the former "red district" 29 artists have turned the rooms into an art exhibition.

The themes approached by these painters, sculptores, photographers, designers, interior decorators and multi-media artists have to do with the different meanings surrounding the motel concept: love, sex, infidelity, erotism.

The event, organized by Grupo Town House, precedes the demolition of the building, where an apartment complex will be built.

Where: J&B, Thames and Paraguay (How to get there)
When: June 23rd to July 16th
Times: 11 am to 8 pm.
Free entrance

Hot chocolate with "churros" at La Giralda

Rain does indeed scare a few people off. Many decide to stay at home, watch a movie, take it easy, relax. However, others are inspired by it... or their apetite, at least, is. If you are one of those people, you might want to grab your umbrella and head for La Giralda. In this traditional café, hot chocolate and "churros" (covered in chocolate too!) are the house´s specialty.

A curiosity: La Giralda is the only Argentine café that appears in the "Route of the most special cafés in the world", selected by Jubilo.es.

Cinema on a rainy day

Today, it´s raining. And word has it that tomorrow will get much worse. So if you are thinking of going to the movies, you might want to know that the great reviews for the French movie "De battre mon coeur s´est arreté" are all well deserved.

Directed by Jacques Audiard, this movie is a remake of a 1978 American movie, "Fingers", directed by James Toback. The story is about Tom, a 28-year old who dangerously follows into his father´s steps, a real estate bully. Until he regains touch with a talent he has inherited from his mother: music.

Ummo for a special ocassion

Elegant, exclusive, just right. Ummo is one of those places you set aside for a special occasion. The decoration is just the right one and the waiters do their best to make you feel taken care of. Considering the location of this restaurante, in the heart of Palermo "Soho", you may consider yourself lucky.

On the other hand, if you are not in the mood for an "unconventional" lunch or dinner, and unwilling to try deer, wild boar or octopus, you may want to go somewhere else.

Highly recommended, as a said, for a special celebration, especially a romantic one. On the expensive side.

Having a beer in San Telmo

On the corner of Bolivar with Estados Unidos, in the heart of San Telmo, lies Territorio, a bar specialized in homemade beer and regional food.

Just like in other places around this neighborhood, Territorio has a bohemian-artistic flavor. The beer is heavy, rich and delicious; if you like dark beer, they have one you must try. The food, on the other hand, is not great and is quite expensive: $35 for a "picada" of cold meats and cheeses, which is neither original nor particularly tasty. Much like what you find in the supermarket.

Having said this, it is a place worth trying out at least for the beer, before or after eating somewhere else.

Address: Estados Unidos 500 - San Telmo
Phone: 4307-0896
Open on: Monday thru Friday, from 8 pm to 12 am. Saturdays and Sundays, from 9 pm to 12 am.

Anti-stress spa

Totally stressed out? Of course you are, it´s the damned middle of the year: the fifteenth day of the sixth month. Half of the year is still ahead of you and even if you have been travelling, chances are you are tired anyway (although not as much as the rest of us).

Then why not go to a spa? Spend a day worrying about nothing else but your body and mind, taking endless showers and saunas, nurturing your skin with endless layers of cream and oils, having someone massage away all your preoccupations.

If this sounds just about right for you, here are some suggestions about where you can go:
Evian Agua Club & Spa: Cerviño 3626, Tel: 4807-4688
Sheraton Pilar Spa: Panamericana KM 49.5 Pilar
Aqua Vita: Arenales 1965, Tel: 4812-5989
